I saw this and it looks nice, unique these days. If you could put a diesel in there and put some good bits on it, could be cool. I haven't seen one in SF/Bay Area that I can recall for some time.

Someone in my complex owns a 4x4 Ranger of that vintage, but I haven't seen a Bronco II in ages. I think I see a Daihatsu Rocky more often.

I saw two of them not too long ago here in Finland.

There was a Ranger turbo diesel in the late 80's, so that might work. But the last time I remember seeing one, definitely wasn't the last time I've seen one.
It was just a memorable experience.

In real life, I would say somewhere around 2004-2005 or thereabouts.

Had one. It was an 88 I think. Was given to me but I never had the money to fix the transmission so I sold it to my grandfather.
There's one around town for a business I see nearly daily.

Yeah Icelandics bring in American trucks to modify too. Some Astro 4x4s there, I was there a few years ago.

I see more first gen Boncos than Bonco IIs...first gens without cut fenders are rarer though.

Yeah there are lots of American cars in Iceland. The Broncos I saw here were stock. I'm not 100% sure but I think Bronco II's were sold here when they were new.

Could be, Fords have been sold all over, like Sweden.

They were never part of official Ford import program but there were/are lots of companies that bring brand new cars from USA and sell them here.

I live in SF Bay. I knew 2 kids in HS with them. FF and you are totally right, I rarely ever see this.
Did they all rust out?, Are they all under going a swap to a manual shifter from on the tree?

A guy in my complex had one in decent condition. I think he sold it a month or so ago. I always see a few for sale when I'm browsing the cheap cars on my local classifieds.

My first thought was they probably didn't sell as many as Chevy sold Blazers. I still see Blazers around. They might have a rust spot that really ruins them, I looked it up just now, a Ranger forum:
Rust:
Look closely for rust in the rear cab corners, bottoms of doors, drivers floor board, the front of the fuel tank where the plastic skid plate is, above the plastic liner in the beds wheelwells (Rusts heavily in the bed side above the wheel wells), the rocker panel behind the rear wheel near the rear bumper, the lower corners of the radiator support under the radiator, under the rubber window sills, in the corner of the floor and the rear cab wall, the bottom of the tailgate, and the rear spring shackles.
A couple more spots that are prone to rusting are the roof corners, under the gas pedal, the seam where the cab floor meets the firewall sheet metal, and right smack dab in the middle of the doors, look for rust bulging/bubbling. Check the floor for wetness on either side of cab floors, and down beside the fusebox/kick panels/computer for water dripping, signs of a poorly done windshield, or one that leaked a bit and was sealed up with silicone.

Meet Buckey the Bronco
He started like as a 2.8L 5M 4x4 Bronco II. He was red. Very, very red.
He was owned by a friend. When that friend acquired some new wheels, he became homeless. So our college house full of 4 automotive delinquents took him in. In short order he bent a wheel driving over railroad tracks (that crazy Buckey...). His fuel pump failed, and so he was flat towed out of the woods (at night), hitting a metal bollard at about 35 MPH while being towed by a Taco.
Then we learned he had a broken body mount at the front left corner. Even slightly abrupt steering input lead to box-truck-like amounts of sway and wobble. And so it was with great joy, several hardware store trips, and much beer that Bucky was transformed into a mud pit beater.
Yes, dryer hose, PVC, a protein jug. He had a bent up downspout exhaust extension, but it got lost offroad. He had 30-something inch swampers, but Bucky still owed his old owner some cash so they had to go.
But he gave us hours of enjoyment. Not many hours, but hours nonetheless. No idea where he is now. He used to sleep outside our house on the street, expired tags and inspection, flat tire, begging for change.
I miss him.

Someone at my school drives one in surprisingly good shaw. They weren't that great and rusted like nobody's business, IIRC.
